Athletics and Academics redefines the student athlete. We educate youth ages 7-17 on how to become both an excellent athlete and student. Athletics and Academics basketball camp combine the two disciplines, teaching student athletes the importance of playing the sport right as well engaging them intellectually by different elements of the game. Through hands-on sessions teaching basketball skills, to hearing from well-respected athletes and academia, we help our students understand sportsmanship, the discipline of playing the game and the healthiness of competition.

Athletics and Academics was founded by NBA player and Colgate graduate Adonal Foyle. Adonal started the camp to educate youth on the importance of being both a great athlete and student. Adonal plays a hands-on role throughout the entire camp emphasizing the many different realms of basketball. Beyond scoring points, he loves to reclaim the notion of rebounding, defensive slides, and blocking shots.

ABOUT ADONAL FOYLE

Adonal was born in the Caribbean islands of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. At age fifteen, he was spotted by two professors from the United States who were refereeing a game. They recognized his potential and offered to bring him to the States where he would have the opportunity to play basketball and get a great education. Adonal decided to move to New York where he completed high school and then continued his education and love of basketball at Colgate University.

Adonal was drafted by the NBA after his junior year, but continued working on his degree while playing in the NBA, and graduated two years later from Colgate University in 1999, Magna Cum Laude, with a degree in History. Adonal has now played in the NBA for twelve years. In addition to Athletics and Academics, Adonal started the Keresone Lamp Foundation, which empowers youth to grow into healthy and well-educated adults.

Adonal's interests off the court have helped prepare him for his future after the NBA. He is currently working on his master's degree in sports sociology and would love to become a general manager for an NBA team.

ABOUT THE CAMPS

Athletics and Academics is preparing for its fourth annual two-day basketball camps. The camps are geared towards boys and girls ranging in age from 7-17. To ensure all students receives the best camp experience; we divide the students into age groups 7-9, 10-12, 13-15, and 16-17. However, to make certain all students are being challenged, we will make adjustments on an as needed basis.

For the summer of 2009, we have two camp locations and dates. The first camp will take place July 9 & 10 in San Leandro. The second camp will be held on July 13 & 14 in San Ramon. Both camps are two-days and will be held from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.
